Virginia Weather And Climate

Virginia Weather is a diverse system that is divided into 5 climate regions: the Tidewater, Piedmont, Northern Virginia, Western Mountain, and Southwestern Mountain regions. Some cities like Charlottesville, Lynchburg, and Warrenton have long growing seasons and winter temperatures that rarely go below freezing, while the northern Blue Ridge can be frigid. Annual rainfall can vary greatly as well, from 33 inches in the Shenandoah Valley to more than 60 inches in the southwestern Virginia Mountains.

Hurricanes are possible and Virginia gets hit by about one every five years. Thunderstorms are very common.
