Long, hot summers and short, mild winters are a standard part of Mississippi Weather. Winters are particularly mild near the Mississippi Sound, while summer is universally oppressive. Snowfalls are light in the north, and almost non-existent in the South. Thunderstorms and tornadoes are common and devastating in Mississippi. An average of 27 tornadoes hit Mississippi in a given year. Hurricanes can devastate the state, especially on the coast as we learned with Katrina. |
